THOMAS BLACHARZ

Thomas BLACHARZ is a globally recognized master and champion in the field of swing dances (Lindy Hop, Jazz Dance). A true globetrotter, for 20 years he has been traveling the world to teach and perform his art through the world's biggest jazz and swing festivals (Montreal Jazz Festival, Tanjazz, Chatel Guyon, Laroquebrou, Hong Kong Fringe Festival, Frankie 95 & Frankie 100 in New York etc… Thomas is also a multidisciplinary choreographer (Caravan Palace) who is appreciated for his ability to adapt, improvise and create, as well as for his musical culture which he inherited from his time as artistic director and DJ at the Apollo Jazz Café (Montpellier-France). In the last three years, Thomas has been pursuing his influences in Swing, Jazz, Funk & Hip Hop through the show "Camping" of the Quebec-based multidisciplinary circus company "Théâtre à Tempo" in Germany (GOP) and Montréal (TOHU) as well as coaching the most ambitious swing scene teachers and competitors through his "Swing Master Class" project. In 2020, Thomas settled in Lacanau Océan where he's transforming the cultural landscape by creating "La Java", a third place partly dedicated to the arts of dance and music, bringing all his expertise, pedagogy, spirit, and passion: an invaluable heritage directly from his legends, mentors, and friends such as Chazz Young, Sonny Allen (1958 Harvest Moon Ball Champion), Chester Whitmore, Sugar Sullivan (Spirit Moves documentary), the late Frankie Manning (Ambassador of swing), Norma Miller (The queen of swing), and the unforgettable Dawn Hampton.
